This is part of Artbase, a project I have been working on in Lowestoft. Myself and Jemma Watts have been working in 3 different schools running family creative learning workshops. There is a blog about this school's project here

Love this picture (above) taken by Libby Waite, the Marketing officer at Norwich Puppet Theatre. This is BEFORE everyone arrives. I like making the spaces enticing and curious, without being precious about it. Once everyone was in and got started, there was a very industrious atmosphere. Everybody was busy exploring, making, creating and playing. We transformed the rows of boxes into a bustling city with roads, traffic lights, car parks, railways and volcanoes (!?) I had the pleasure this week of visiting The Parkside School in Norwich during their arts week. There was loads of activities going on. I worked with 4 groups on expressive mark making. I took them through some warm up activities before we started on the BIG painting. There was sponging, scraping, dragging, smearing and of course squirting and dribbling paint. All the groups thoroughly explored the potential of paint and enjoyed the complicité of making a group piece. We made time lapses films of the painting which I will hopefully be able to post here later. I was very lucky to be in a room that had wipe clean walls and a very accommodating teacher, as we made quite a mess!
Very very excited to be part of Team Magic for the 2014 residencies of Magic Adventure. Magic Adventure is an interactive installation for very young children and babies. I will be lucky enough to be working with Charlotte Arculus and Saffron Paffron; amazing performers and makers who originally devised and designed the show. Alongside them, are two fantastic music practitioners and performers; Natalie Willis and Mary Lovett. We spent the first week of 2013 doing research and development for an upcoming residency in the spring. It is a real privilege to be working with such a talented bunch of people I am going to be learning lots. Pictures by Saffron Paffron
A lovely way to end the year off with Little Tots at Norwich Puppet Theatre. I created a fancy dress emporium for children and parents to explore. Full of hats, dresses, cloaks, sunglasses and a whole van load of random fancy dress items! There was a photo booth to record the costumes and a party with balloons to finish up with. It was a blast! Looking forward to the next sessions coming up in the new year. Thank you NPT for inviting me back!
So many magic moments from yesterday's Planet UV at Norwich Puppet Theatre. Watching two brothers playing with shredded paper for nearly half an hour was well worth the spectacular art installation called "Mess" that was created as result of these children playing! This activity is an extension of "taking a line for a walk".
Here we have parents and children working together, but it could be suitable for same age groups as well. One of you holds the pen and is passive, the other holds their hand and takes it and the pen for a walk around the page. After a minute or two swap roles. It is a really interesting exercise. Dominant personalities can struggle with letting go, and followers get the opportunity to take the lead. Working with families it is apparent that the adult is not always the dominant party and vice versa, so it provides a really good level playing field where we can step out of our usual roles, whatever they might be. |
